Is World War 3 around the corner? Ask the PM...
The PBS Channel is always quite interesting if you like history. In particular the world wars. I saw one about the rise of Mussolini and indeed about some of the ways fascism came to power. The situation after WW1 was not brilliant, many western countries were devastated, cities in ruin, starvation. There were also many refugees. It seemed inevitable that someone charismatic and not afraid to use some violence to impose the will of a party or indeed, an individual such as Mussolini. The two decades before WW2 were characterised by the rise of fascism mainly because people wanted law and order. Unfortunately these two things do not really fit into the fascist agenda. They talk about it but the actions are a poignant sign to what is going to happen. What is more worrying that the present period, also visible here in Britain seems to be a time of social unrest brought on by the inability of government to impose its democratic will. Meaning what people have voted for is not being carried out or even attempted to address. Such as the immigration problem. The democratic processes are under threat as never before. People here are now looking for a way as well, hence the rise of the new right of the spectrum party, the Reform Party. It remains to be seen whether they have a chance to be elected to high office. I think, like the Labour party before the last general election, they are not ready for government. There are no policies, not that I know of, but there is still time. In the meantime we have to endure the incompetence of Starmer and his mob. Hopefully he has still one braincell so he can understand the perilous situation of the UK, without a proper Army and a depleted Navy and perhaps, perhaps, do something constructive about it. Rather than play hosts to a duplicitous French president. In the end let’s hope what the PBS channel has been showing will not happen again as the repercussions for us all would be a hundred times worse.
