Is planning up to scratch?
Just wondering why planners, indeed the government, think it is a good idea to plaster the countryside with small houses, no garden, and acres of solar panels? Does every person in the various offices think it doesn’t matter about a healthy environment, indigenous wildlife? Humans don’t need areas for growing their food any more? Perhaps it is easier to import? The problem with all that idiotic planning and rules is eventually the pigeons are coming home to roost! As the climate heats up growing areas in southern lands will dry up and importing their once plentiful fruits and vegetables will no longer be available. Those that are still will be exceedingly expensive. But hey, we are alright in Britain, we are warm and can drive our EV’s. Except, just to remind our clever lawmakers, we cannot eat or drink electricity! One of the problems is overzealous politicians with one burning desire to fulfil an idea they have and come what may to do it. Ed Miliband is just such a man, wanting to make an example. To show how good he is and cares for people. Whilst in actuality he is ruining the environment on which people depend. Depend on for their locally grown healthy food. The other point needing discussion is how much influence these pressure groups have on political thinking? For instance the power producing lobby. Obviously, it is true that there are a lot of employment opportunities in that sector but should that be the be all? When all the land has been used for the unsightly wind turbines and the destruction of the soil that comes with it and the acres and acres of closely packed solar panel fields, one may well ask where we are going? Despite planting trees, usually spruce because the softwood is good for nothing really except burning to provide electricity, we are still felling natural ancient woods.
Even worse, local government which one should remember was elected to look after its area is failing in that task. They only appear just to follow the directives of the national government in London. With as a result the speed of which the land is now desecrated has become unstoppable. Both for housing and power production. In the Rhondda valley housing has been always at a premium, more so the housing stock is very poor quality. Even the new houses and flats now being built are poor. Basically wooden frames covered with some plastic covered foam and lined with a brick or breeze block outer. Breeze block will also be finished with a coat of mortar and if you are lucky pebble-dashed with some coloured material. Poor? Nah, immigrants and those who are turned out of jails don’t need gardens. Unfortunately those that still work and contribute their exorbitant taxes are not listened to because they no longer matter. Their opinions do not coincide with the elected wonders. Indeed the state of the nation is just like that. No wonder we are beginning to look for a change. The worry is that such a change might also not be quite what we need.
