Ready for war? Let's go...
One of the many questions that are or should be asked is this – Can Britain fight a war? From where I am sitting my answer would be, are you kidding? Just look at the state of our armed forces. Virtually no navy and we are very dependent on the sea being an island. Just look at our army, some 70,000 strong with most of them being upper class officers. We could just about have two brigades in the field. But we are good on parades. The air-force today is struggling to get planes into the sky and on top of that cannot decide whether these planes should be purchased from America (F35’s) or we should build them ourselves. We can’t even decide whether we should be a part of an European army. Certainly we are part of NATO for whatever that means today, as surely we can no longer depend on the USA for 100 percent. Besides that argument comes the realisation political interference or inability to make the relevant decisions in the liberal governments of Europe make it virtually impossible to create fighting armies.
In Britain we have some brilliantly exposition of military decision making by our liberal woke government seemingly going along with Macron the French president who is concerned belatedly about Russia’s threat to western Europe. Just this summer, the our government told people to prepare for war on British soil, and is urging better preparedness for conflict across society. Assuming tensions continue to ramp up and a new global conflict were to erupt, there are some indicators about what would happen if the UK went to war and needed to introduce conscription, or mandatory military service, whether in a WW3 situation or not. (Express Newspapers). But whether this is just pie in the sky or whether the government is serious is another question. The truth is are our 20 to 35 year old’s prepared to be called up and go to the rigours of military training, even perhaps to be sent to the continent to die? I am older but I would still sign up to defend this country. It is my duty to do so. Whether this would be a training job, I have had military training and still would be able to fire a rifle or bazooka or whether I would be standing on the shores in some type of HomeGuard, whatever it is fine by me. But yes, the question whether we would be able to find enough fit and able men or even women, is very much open to question. The government said its peace and most likely it stays at that as with all other talk from the government. But there do not seem to be proper plans for action to remedy the situation. Presently there is simply no money to do so as most cash goes to keep people on social benefits, including a very sizeable young part of the population. Ask most youngsters and they all say the same thing, we want to see the world. That’s great but counterproductive to the world’s situation as it is today.
So, yes, the question of are we prepared to go to war, a defensive war, the answer is a resounding no! Despite these wonderful government plans we simply haven’t got the stomach or money. If we were serious to address the question it would take billions. The admin for a call-up would be immense. But perhaps AI can send us to war?
