Yeah, what about taxation then eh?

Ha, what can you say today about tax? Nothing much except that it has gone up. Yeah, yeah, I know, gone up by a huge amount. But despite weasel words from both Starmer and Reeves which have now been shown to be complete lies as well, it will have been designed to raise over £40billion. Pocket money really because most of it will go to the national hoover service, the NHS. I realise that people think they will need the NHS but do we need the all-encompassing service as it is? Which other country allows people to attend a GP surgery with a common cold? Or a graze on a knee? Or dispenses free medicine, even paracetamol? Here in the UK we have been allowed to grow up expecting freebies like the NHS without fail. Now that due to increased population the NHS is tottering and still tries to stand up, our political nonsense purveyors think that throwing just a bit more money will do the trick. As it has already been proven, it does not. It just increases the administration apparatus and wage i...

Musings about space-time...

Whilst it is fun to write about our national political failures, both human and in actions, it doesn’t stop the mind thinking about everything around itself. In particular the space we all live in. Like for instance, expanding space. The question about how our universe started. Big Bang? Big Whimper? Or no bang or whimper at all? Obviously I am not a scientist, although it doesn’t stop me thinking about the subject. For what I am seeing and hearing, scientists also don’t really know much about it either. The reality on the ground is pretty simple. Everything falls down. In other words ‘gravity’. A force not to be taken lightly either. The next thing I am thinking, our universe is there, we can see the stars in it. Our enormous telescopes are showing it in great detail. Then the idea of the ‘expanding’ universe. But is that really true? Of course, there is the ‘red-shift’ but does that actually indicate the universe is expanding? Or that star systems are just moving about. As everything...

Are things better there or here? It depends...

As readers from a previous post will recall we recently returned from the Netherlands. Permit me to say here, now that we are back in the RhonddaCynonTaf Borough, send all the councillors over there to see how they deal with rubbish. There are the usual problems but I can say the roads and pavements look clean. People take some pride in their surroundings, little and small as they are. I just went for a walk today in the sunshine and was aghast at the amount of crap rubbish all around. The pavements are virtually clogged with sweet wrappers, empty plastic bottles and on rubbish collection day it is festooned with plastic bags, see-through or the black type which are the favourite of the local jackdaws and cats. Also the rat population is doing quite well, thank you. What’s gone wrong with us, no pride in our surroundings anymore? Or are RhonddaCynonTaf people now so immune to rubbish they don’t mind living in the midst of it? In fact rejoice in it? No-one cares, even when you point out...

London, that great cesspool into which all the loungers and idlers of the Empire are irresistibly drained.

Not so long ago the UK voted in a new party to govern us all. Wonderful promises, working people would be treated like gods, they would sort out the ‘mess’ left by the previous ‘idiots’ and more. The question now after only a short time is – what happened to this heaven? Well, of course, it never happened. The trouble is ‘political double speak’ has now pervaded all of society. It is a bit like A.I, we don’t really know what is true and what is not. However, believe me when I say, most of it is untrue. Simple obfuscation of reality. The political class do not wish us to know the real state of the nation and believe me, it is not brilliant. How can the politicos be proud of the years of doing absolutely nothing? Yes, it goes across the spectrum. It is easy to talk about things, caged in wonderful words, like a pantomime. Studied appearances, how they stand, how they frown or smile. It is all just so much cr*p. We have became a nation led by third-rate woke artists. The only thing we do ...

Reparations? Why?

Lovely to see the King and Queen enjoying their stay in Samoa but I wonder if they know they are walking into a trap set up by mostly the Caribbean Commonwealth nations about reparations for slavery. Well, let me say here straight away all slavery ought to be unlawful. Surely no-one today agrees with slavery. Yet, it still exists in many forms. I suppose there are now no sailing ships taking the people of Africa to America to work on the plantations, today they go voluntarily to seek a better life. But the point, as many have said, why dreg up happenings from the past about which we can do nothing except to disown it? Obviously by today’s standards slavery is abhorrent, especially the way it was carried out in the 1500-1700’s. It is not something to be proud of. But if we start talking about reparations, financial reparations, one UN idiot has worked out that Britain ‘owes’ more than £18 trillion! Bit of pocket money I suppose. Bearing in mind that our national debt stands at about £2....

Just a short trip..and back.

Recently I took the plane to visit my family in the Netherlands. Flight just an hour, no frills, no thrills. Overall I am not happy in myself for having to take a plane because of the CO2 it undeniably pushes out of its engines. But the train from Wales is a no-go. Cardiff station is a nightmare, you have to traverse half of London by foot, bike, or taxi. Tube, whatever and St Pancreas to catch the Eurostar is another nightmare. If you plan you might find a train that actually goes to Amsterdam Centraal station but most likely you would have to change at Brussels. On top of all that the cost is much higher than flying. So, although being environmentally conscious the choice is rather limited. Anyway, having arrived at Schiphol I have to say that organisation is way above what we have to experience in the UK. About everything is signposted in about 2,000 languages and about everybody speaks English. The marechaussee (military border guard division of the Dutch army) was very fast, stamp...

Where are we going? You tell....

Like it has been indicated quite a few times – the world is run by either complete morons, or by megalomaniacs. I am not the only one who says this and in any case you only have to listen or see TV news reports. Some would say, ’So what? It has always been like that, look at history’. Sure, quite right but now we are in the 21 st century and quite frankly these people that lord it over the rest of us are now shown to be simply digging the communal grave. Their avarice, their untamed greed, their lust for power have put us at the edge of the abyss. Look at the so-called ‘Police agent’ of the world, the United States. Led by someone who should stay in bed but the possibility of someone taking over who quite simply has no idea beyond talking about making ‘America great again’. Like if the rest of America actually cared. Then at another side of the word are two autocratic powers who simply do not feel their respective nations are big enough. Aided in those views based on cloud-cuckoo opin...

Sleaze or not to sleaze? That's the question...

Good news this morning, our law-abiding Prime Minister has paid back £6,000. Why? Well, all the freebies he and his family have received. That’s nice, isn’t it? An upstanding Prime Minister. Where have we found him? I think he fell from heaven. Just now I’m looking what he has done with his wings. There is just one thing that bothers me, why do politicians accept freebies so much? Yes, obviously I know, it’s about influence. Let’s be fair, those who shower these so-called freebies, clothes, free tickets, a year’s subscription to a whisky club, free flights to Antarctica, whatever, why accept it at all? Even a free bar of chocolate? The givers only look for one thing, influence on policy making and possibly financial advantage. It should simply be unlawful to either give or accept freebies, or any gift made e.g a free house for a time. Any MP is at the end no different from any other employee in the country. Why all these extras? It is said, and I have said it before; power corrupts, ab...
