Are things better there or here? It depends...

As readers from a previous post will recall we recently returned from the Netherlands. Permit me to say here, now that we are back in the RhonddaCynonTaf Borough, send all the councillors over there to see how they deal with rubbish. There are the usual problems but I can say the roads and pavements look clean. People take some pride in their surroundings, little and small as they are. I just went for a walk today in the sunshine and was aghast at the amount of crap rubbish all around. The pavements are virtually clogged with sweet wrappers, empty plastic bottles and on rubbish collection day it is festooned with plastic bags, see-through or the black type which are the favourite of the local jackdaws and cats. Also the rat population is doing quite well, thank you. What’s gone wrong with us, no pride in our surroundings anymore? Or are RhonddaCynonTaf people now so immune to rubbish they don’t mind living in the midst of it? In fact rejoice in it? No-one cares, even when you point out it is in their own front/back yard. They will not clear it. When asked why – the stereotype answer is – 'It is the Council’s job, it gives employment'. What?!? Sure, the Council only gives employment to office jobbos and pays councillors to stay at home and beat the dog. Councils in Britain are no longer fit for purpose. Certainly, are not value for money. Government today just means pleasing people with the loudest voice and strange afflictions.

The whole edifice of government in all colours needs a real serious looking at. Frankly that goes for the whole western democratic sphere. Democracy itself needs looking at, at least how it is carried out. For too long we have had charlatans professing to know what needs to be done when it is quite evident that nothing of any value gets done. People talk glibly about the status quo. Yes, it means that things stay the same. Even that is not the case, things do not stay the same, they just get worse. I am sure the WWW has not improved things either although it was hailed as a saviour. It just fuelled the crime spree now costing billions of pounds just in the UK alone. I shiver at the world-wide figure. It must run into the trillion or even trillions. Our western civilisation just fuels the crime spree and tuning in to that are the autocratic regimes of the world. Don’t think we are governed by elected government. We are governed by avarice, greed and carelessness. It goes right to the top and bottom. It is the human disease.

Already, there are signs we are nationally overspending. Our GDP, the money figure showing what we produce, is now lower than the national debt. Never mind talk of ‘black holes’, it is worse than that. Ms Reeves went to the LSE (London School of Economics), we should wonder what they teach there. Let us assume it is worthwhile. Then for myself I would say, time Ms Reeves to set the ship back on course as you have been taught. Rather than fleecing those of us left who pay tax. In fact a warning here, these taxable people are becoming fewer and fewer. I thought it better to let you know.
