Tax baby, don't we just love tax...not.

We have indicated many times how poor our government really is. We all can see it yet again in all its splendour. The Labour promises, now slowly being backtracked. The incessant ‘Talk’ about ‘black holes’. Black holes no-one knows how they came about or even if they existed at all. The continuing talk about the previous government having left us ‘with a real mess’. Which they will put right in two months. Or even before Christmas. OK, Starmer, if there was or is such a mess how about doing something? Instead of looking like you heard it thundering in Paris? I believe the problem is a simple one, MPs are basically bottom sitters. That is to say they talk about real problems then go home and believe they have solved them. I have news for them, problems are NOT solved by talking about them but by doing something constructive. However, it is only the Cabinet that has the power to take action. Unfortunately they are of the same ilk.

Take the much talked about new idea of taxing – Inheritance Tax (IHT) in particular for farming. When everything over £1million will be taxed at 40%. Despite Ms Reeves wonderful speech about ‘Saving small family farms’ the reality is that most, if not all, farms will be worth much more than £1million. Farms are asset rich but cash poor. The result of the new law would be assets having to be sold. This would fracture farms with land being sold off. Whether Ms Reeves understands farming or not is not the question but it does seem yet another law made by a government far removed from the people it governs. Instead of doing what they said they would do we have yet again just carried on with the same old, old. Haphazard law making which will prove to be difficult and destroying something that the whole population depends on for most of its food supply. There were hopes of a real good look at how government should be in the 21st century. But we are just carrying on with a 19th century style. We still pretend to be a world power without an army or navy. Or at least what we have left of army and navy. Already words that have been heard is that in any coming war or fight we would not even last a few months.

Perhaps there is no answer – the reason being human nature. We just love being ‘In charge’, dishing out rules and regulations for others whilst we who are in power may gleefully forget the same rules and regulations. It is the way of the human world. People change when elected. Or when through military means take power. It is to be seen in all ways of life. Even in the Church.

The Church of England has had its ups and downs, just another body where too many who are ‘called’ view it as another job. It is also one of my personal experiences. When clergy tells the congregation they will close the church because it is too cold. Or there are no toilet facilities. OK friends, did they build these in the Middle Ages or what? The Church also has forgotten who they are supposed to lead spiritually. Maybe it is not strange, the Church is still part of the governmental body of Great Britain. Perhaps it is time finally to move to the 21st century and start planning for the monumental changes that are going to be needed to combat global starvation, global warming and global populations. And stop carping on about whether 20mph will reduce car exhaust, it won’t.
