Have the lunatics taken over the asylum? Eh...
Whilst watching Prime Minister’s Question Time yesterday one could not help but feel a bit sorry for the PM. Talking about seeing and hearing someone who is way out of their depth! This is the man who wanted to be PM, now he is and I wonder what his blood pressure is at the moment. A few things he said though were true. It is not just the Labour government who is guilty of reducing the armed forces. It has been all governments since 1945. Not just in this country either. In that respect Trump was correct in denouncing Europe, western Europe as ‘freeloaders’. But Trump also needs to remember it was the American desire to be the "numero uno" in this world that facilitated it. In other words – Follow our systems, buy our weapons and we will look after you. The problem was our own governments were only too happy to follow it, never looking at possible consequences, never even considering future implications. Yes, Russia is a problem, it has been a problem ever since Catherine the Terrible chopped off a few heads, or whatever her name was. It makes you think whether government people need a shrink before they take office.
It is not good for my morale to watch poor Keir at the Despatch Box looking like he has a bad stomach and desperately wants to fart but cannot. It is no good trying to try and waffle out of pertinent questions. As Kemi Badenoch, the Opposition leader said, it is no good answering questions from a previously prepared paper. As we heard some of the questions she placed were not even answered, it was a farce. There he stood with that ‘Fish’ look , a fish that was hooked and could not get out the nasty hook in its mouth. Yes, our ship will go to Cyprus, no it cannot. It needs a refit. By the time that is done, the war will be over. At least we shall hope so. Talk about being unprepared!
In the meantime the US has its own worries. As per the usual it has started something led by a President who talks big, acts big but in reality has even less understanding of events than our own Starmer. I have said before it is crazy we allow people like that to be leaders of countries or political parties. Where are the proper minds? Where are the people who know things? Are people like Trump, Starmer, Rayner, all we can come up with? Where are the people who have a good grasp of national economics? Banking prowess? Understanding the word ‘Infrastructure’? Finance? Budgets? The list could go on but they are pertinent questions. Here we have 650 or so MPs, most of them are people that stood up and wanted to be counted, helping people. But then the reality of political life grabs them and we end up with PM Question Time questions about Auntie Elsie’s heating system. Yes, important obviously to Auntie Elsie but it won’t help with solving the nation’s or world’s problems. It ought to be remembered the PM’s Question Time is a joke. Designed to show off Parliament’s prowess but actually does the opposite. The other thing to be remembered is the influence of the Civil Service over proceedings. It is an open secret that the Civil Service has a large reach over political decision making. Perhaps it is something that needs looking at.
Well, in the end what happens in the world, bad or good but it seems mostly bad can be laid at the feet of these incompetents. It is too easy for people like Trump to blather on about taxes, about wars, about almost anything sitting in the White House. The problem is, we still follow like sheep.
