Now something more brainy again?

Staring up at the sky one clear night in South Wales, ignoring some of the light pollution in order to see if I could notice the asteroid which was promised could be hitting the Earth, I saw precisely what you are able to see on most clear nights. Clear nights in present day South Wales is a bit of an hit and miss affair. Even so, I started thinking it did look endless. Reading some of the many technical websites concerning the Universe and pondering words like ‘Big Bang, String Theory, Expansion’ to name only a few I began to wonder whether the BB actually happened. Obviously, astronomers have figured out as the Universe seems to be expanding, ie the space between matter is enlarging there must have been a beginning point. A black hole of gigantic proportions perhaps. First of all I think the Universe is the wrong name. Especially as most people think it’s all there is. I equate Universe with the matter, anti-matter, dark matter that originated some 13 or so billion years ago. But all that matter exists I believe in an unending void. Possibly with more ‘Universes’. Under such an idea expansion does not matter, theoretically it could go on forever. But again I believe that is not the case. There will come an end to movement. We hear a lot of ‘the heat death’ of the Universe (our bit I think they mean) when the space matter occupies is so large that one atom cannot ‘see’ another. Or if you will, galaxies are so far apart that they exist in glorified loneliness. That gravity has lost its grip. Plus of course, the galaxies and its stars are burned out and instead darkness reigns.

So no BB but obviously a beginning there has to be. The idea about a gigantic black hole also would be meaning there was something before that. Possibly another ‘Universe’ collapsing which would also mean our eventual end. Again gravity wins in the end. But black holes do radiate their matter slowly, evaporate I read somewhere. That evaporation might be slow viewing from the black hole perspective but to us it would, or could seem extremely violent. True, a lot of supposition and I am sure this what I have written is not newsy either. Nevertheless it is interesting. It’s all a matter of size! Recently I heard the words ‘The Great Attractor’, I think it was from one of Prof Al-Khalili TV marathons, I thought that was great since for me it explained that at some time this Attractor could coalesce all matter to form the black hole all over again. It is something that might be going on for eternity. In our short lifetime we will never know why and how it all comes together. As I have surmised before we could be simply be part of a much bigger continuum, and now I am becoming a bit of a Hindu believer and say, be part of the hair on the dog. Sure, an interesting thought.
