Anyone care to tell what's going on?
Three years ago an aggressive nation invaded a neighbour on the pretext it needed ‘security’. Whatever security they were thinking of is not very clear but it seems that even today Russia because that's the nation we are talking about, needs for some reason a hundreds of miles wide belt of land around its borders to ‘thwart’ those nasty Europeans who are all members of a military organisation called NATO. Obviously no-one mentions that NATO was set up to ‘thwart’ those ‘nasty’ Russians from invading or even start a nuclear war. So, yes the impasse is right in front of our eyes. It is not going to be solved either, at least not in my lifetime or indeed anyone else’s life time. Simply because the Russian mindset is about one thing – world domination. Probably a left over from their Mongolian forefathers who were rampaging all over the steppes, probably just to see how far they could get. Europe and that unfortunately includes the more populous western part of Russia, ever has suffered this type of mentality. Obviously not helped much by their royal houses which were busy playing ‘Who’s the boss now then’? Or very busy tramping all over the world establishing their superiority, including Britain. One could argue that these things aided progress but then the reply would be ‘What progress are we really talking about’?
Even
so, we have to deal with the reality and that reality is Russian
occupation of some 20% of their neighbour and wants to keep it. All
signs point to the US having thought about the cost of continuing
Ukraine’s defence and wants out. One might baulk at the way this is
now happening but as the American people have voted in the most
right-wing president and consorts in a while, things will be moving
that particular way. Zelensky is pretty aware of it as are the
European Union. The truth also has to be said, Europe has been lax in
looking after its own interests and have depended on the US for a lot
of things. Security being one. This is blatantly seen in the
non-paying of the agreed sums of their national GDP. This being 2.5%
has never been totally complied with. Not even the UK did to our
shame. I mentioned this before, we now need an European army. At the
minimum a solid working together of the national armies, having the
same weapons the same research. Even more, leave behind the ‘I am
the boss and will decide how we go’ mentality. We need to
incorporate the Ukraine wholly and fully. I am not looking away from
reality, which is that Russia occupies part of that country. That
must be reversed although being realistic not with an armed force. I
am afraid that what Putin said not so long ago about there is going
to be a different world order might be closer than we think! The US
is crawling back and the message is, ‘Up Yours Europe and Ukraine’! And as I also have said once or twice before - America needs an enemy. They need a big enemy, so here is Russia bleeding itself to death in the Ukraine and that will not serve the purpose of the US. Iran is an enemy but by far not big or dangerous enough. The whole to serve the American weapons industry worth trillions of dollars both in exports and home production. Just a thought to remember.
