Political suicide and down the Well of Obscurity...

How many times has it been that some politicians are shysters, or at worst criminals? It seems the human preponderance for liking money and power outweigh anything else. To get to the top come what may is the wet dream of many aspiring to what they believe is greatness. The biggest examp0le of course is a certain American would-be politician. One of my most liked political correspondents or if you will journalist, is Trevor Kavanagh. His articles pull no punches. You might argue he is a rabid rightie but I think you’d be wrong. As he indicated in this Saturday’s article in the Sun newspaper, “Our Ang knew what she was doing, furthermore Keir did as well and knowing full well what she had done still ‘supported’ her”. When everyone else knew the writing was on the wall. Keir’s political acumen is not great, but for Pete’s sake he is a Human Rights lawyer, a barrister no less. What does that say for the legal profession? If you don’t believe me, read this Wiki – Keir Starmer the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom since 2024 and Leader of the Labour Party since 2020, practised law before his political career began in 2015. After becoming a barrister in 1987, he mostly dealt with criminal defence work on human rights matters. In 2008, he became Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and Head of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), holding these positions until 2013. It shows one thing, his legal career fizzled out and he decided he would be better off joining the easiest party to get into. Why not? In the meantime I don’t think we should write off our Angie. She will turn up in another time and another place. People generally have weak recall, just look again at some I have just mentioned who lives in Washington DC for most of the time. But as Trevor indicated Ms Rayner committed political suicide. Why, would be a good question. Greed? She was not short of money, so not that then. I think she listened to the wrong people. She wanted to buy a flat in a nice place. We all seem to have a liking for the sea. I do too, having spent a week in lovely West Pembrokeshire. So, someone might have said, “Hey if you make that your principal residence you do not have to pay tax”. To be fair it is a bit of a minefield, you would need to be someone well versed in tax matters. Obviously our Ang was not such a person. It might be fun to sort out who was advising her. Her error was basically trying to hide the error of judgement and bearing her position and how she acted in the past, especially when in Opposition, she had no alternative but to resign everything. So, the great and the good and the bad fall down the Well of Obscurity

She was not just the only one who fell foul of greed, lust, avarice, or plain bad judgement within our ‘much-loved’ political clique. As Trevor pointed out, we have had, Louise Haigh, Tulip Siddiq, Rushanara Ali , had shown bad judgement or even criminality. This from people who constantly when in opposition harangued the then Conservative government on their actions and misdeeds. You just cannot make it up, can you? These are the people we have trusted to lead us, to improve our society, to fight crime, to right the wrongs. Instead we stumble on with mediocrity and stupidity. There are still some good people in government, perhaps it is time we see and hear more from them.
