Something more brainy? How about the Universe?
Talking science on a Channel5 program Prof Jim al-Khalili tried to explain something about the end of the Universe. Or rather how it would end. Now it has to be said if that happened it would be billions of years from now. No wonder we have sleepless nights. Whilst this is interesting the question is should we pay so much money into educating about something we will never see or experience? Is there something palpably important about knowing how the Universe will end? Obviously in performing these studies there will be attached discoveries that are important and undoubtedly will aid in the development of our present attempts to travel to the outermost reaches of our own solar system or even such a mundane thing like trying to establish humans on the planet Mars. Whatever. The whole talk began to sound like guesswork with attached scientific explanations such as the composition of the galaxies and how they measured the speed of them. All I got out of it was that either the Universe would collapse or endlessly carry on until the stars were so far apart (if they still burned their matter) they would be alone in the vastness.
To me it sounded like the prof did not know either way. One interesting point made was that he mentioned the discovery of dark matter and dark energy and that it started about 6billion years ago. Mentioning that the early universe moved/expanded slowly but suddenly speeded up starting after some 88billion years after the BB. On top of that the BB was not quite what we think of as a big explosion. Sure, it was interesting but the real issue was that no-one really knows what happened, what the causes were and what will happen in the far distant future.
Unfortunately, we heard nothing about the possibility of there being multiple Universes. As the prof said before, gravity rules but yet seems powerless to stop the expansion of space. So, how about if there were multiple universes within the limitless space and these universes have all had a beginning at some time or other, they will interact. Maybe even pull at each other showing up as expansion. We are starting to begin a metaphysical theory! In which we are just a part of another being. That our universe as a whole is just a particle in itself. Together with other universes/particles. It all depends how you view size. If for instance you would view our universe from a distance and far enough away, you would only see a glowing point. With the multi universes idea as well you begin to see perhaps structures very alike how we see the atomic structures of elements. Ad infinitum.
