Something else to talk about...

A lot goes on in the scientific world. Loads of information is published every day, year on end and increasing. That’s great but for ordinary mud-skippers like myself, we are struggling to find a meaning of all that. As it gets it amounts to a type of brain-dead and putting everything away in a dark corner of our minds. Yet the question of life remains. How did it start, why here on Earth? For me and I suspect for others as well, it seems that life is something that automatically happens when conditions are met. When talking about conditions it should be obvious these can and will differ across the vast expanses of the Universe. Hence life will come in many different forms. An example would be Earth’s dinosaurs. Most perished, why? The conditions changed. Whether a wide conflagration changing the climate or overpopulation I will leave that but yes, conditions changed and the then lifeforms could not cope, or change fast enough. The same rule applies to us, humans. Although there is no massive impact of a comet or asteroid (as yet!) our meddling is doing virtually the same thing. So we have a choice, either do something constructive about it or just carry on and face the consequences. We hear that life needs oxygen and water. Indeed, our life forms here on Earth do, but elsewhere could be different. I am not certain whether that water or/and oxygen are a necessary need for life to exist. Here I remember reading a news item saying there were microbes or something similar that could live in space. That could mean some sort of life living on an asteroid which in its own way could mean how the beginning of life started on the Earth. Such life probably was nothing like we have today. But it means asteroid life would adapt to the conditions it found, even more keep doing so as conditions evolved and changed continually. It still does not answer one of the original questions science asked – how did life start from nothing? Again an experiment putting charges of electricity copying lighting together with specific chemicals or elements, showed acids being formed that also today are part of our bodies.

All of this I think shows that life is not just probable, it is definite and exists throughout the Universe. Wherever conditions are suitable for oxygen breathers or water dependent forms are met, life will develop. Hydrogen is the most numerous element in the Universe so it is not strange that it forms part of most element combinations such as water (hydrogen and oxygen). The one thing flummoxing people is the idea of aliens, aliens visiting Earth. It is perhaps silly to say but it is almost 100% not possible due to the vast distances. Once life has developed on a particular planetary body it is dependent on that body. Yes, it can leave but will need to bring with it all the requisites it needs to stay alive. Just look at our space programs. The main problem is in keeping astronauts alive and well. Well, this little chat is a bit different from my usual ones but why not be interested in other fields. It keeps one’s brain active and hopefully positive.
