An acidic look at the state of affairs....
Wow, great news! The sun is back. After a scorching week a short while ago we had what I would term some heavy Scottish mist ( light rain) which was propelled forward by some strong winds. Not only that but it continued for days and nights on end. Lovely we need the rain, Welsh Water said and upped the bills as a joyous statement of intent. On top of that I was told to boil the water before making my coffee or I would die. So, not bad then. As it was the local Tesco sold some lovely English sparkling water and I am still alive. Now it is a Sunday and listening to the always uplifting news reports I learned that the by-election to get Andy (our Saviour) Burnham elected as the next PM is a given as Reform and Restore are at each other’s throats. The good Rupert wants to decapitate Nigel and Nigel wants his friend Trump to deport Rupert to Alcatraz and throw away the key. Interesting times eh? And oh yeah talking about Andy, would he make any difference? You bet he won’t, he can’t! As the good BBC News just highlighted, he would be constrained by the financial position. The monthly interest of the debt pile won’t walk away, the money to social welfare won’t go away either, so no change in the pressures. If those Labour MPs that are looking for Andy to make their lives somewhat easier, will have another think coming. For once I have to say Rachel is right, there is NO money. Not for Defence, not for more social welfare, not for anything new. Not until someone will cut the Gordian Knot. And that person will not be Andy Burnham. It might have escaped a lot of people but we really are in serious trouble. Nationally and Internationally. It is obvious that parties, under the guise of ‘We are going to help you’ have done nothing of the sort.
On top of that we, the ordinary Joe’s on the street were goaded into believing it. Simply because of this, what do those words, helping you, really mean? It became quite clear over the last decades that politicians have succumbed to uttering platitudes. The latest favourite, ‘We are making lives better for working people’. What they forgot to add is “We, the great leaders of this great country are the working people”. OK, we get the drift. So, in Wales the ‘working people’ were thrown out and another lot of ‘working people’ got in the soft velvet of the Senedd seats. But again, the restrictions of the cash situation will ensure not much will or even can, change. They will rehash the finances. Take some money from this to put it into that and everyone will stand around clapping their hands. The great saviours are at work, let everyone see it. Give them a rise in stipend, they deserve it. The truth of the matter is quite a simple one to understand. Not until there is a complete reset, a complete change of direction, will anything change. Until then we will continue on the slippery downward slope we have been on since the seventies and possibly since the end of WW2.
What is worrying is our, the ordinary Joe’s mindset. We seem to accept this state of being. We have begun to believe that the State indeed is our saviour. In fact our young people have begun to think they do not have to work at all. A heck of a lot just want to travel the world. The State will pay. This belief, this faith has also percolated to the poorer parts of the world and those also want to travel the world but first come to the UK. Millions have already done so. Coupling this belief with the political dogma it is not difficult to figure out what really needs doing. Well, I have to leave that, think about it whilst I take the Mediterranean cruise I have promised myself. Just waiting for my PIP money together with the other payments I have applied for, to arrive in my bank account, thank you hard working politicians, I know it is my right as you have told me many times. Hey, I might meet you in Cyprus, it is nice there, I’ll buy you an ouzo.
