An endless Universe? Ah, maybe...
An interesting website named NovaPrism came up on my feed. It had an interesting explanation about the Universe. I had always read the Universe was the Big Bang and the matter it created and we see (part of it). But now we are talking about infinite. Space is flat meaning if I started travelling now I could carry on forever. But that sounds a bit silly, so what does it mean? It stated ‘To understand how this is possible, it helps to separate the universe into two parts. The "observable universe" is the spherical bubble of space visible from Earth. Because the universe is 13.8 billion years old, light has only had that much time to reach telescopes, creating a visible horizon about 93 billion light-years across. This observable bubble is strictly finite, containing a limited number of galaxies. But the observable universe is just the region whose light has reached Earth. So, the ‘universe’ is what we live in and see. The result of the ‘explosion’ (really the wrong word, it should be sudden expansion of energy which cooled and deposited matter – much like water and ice – it all depends on energy). The Universe with a capital is the unending void which is not really a void because these universe islands will be everywhere just floating serenely in the everlasting void. In time – which is a concept by itself – and it only means something to the universe we live in (note the lower-case u), every island universe has its own time. It also means that somewhere (over the rainbow) another me will be born, another die and type this. That process we can call probability. As the main basis of probability is 50:50 the question becomes interesting because it means ‘Yes, it’s all true or no, it is hogwash’.
But, there is always a but, I can see our universe, or at least the bit that is 13.8 billion years old, meaning that it is true. It happened and will happen again but somewhere else, and again all over the place. Would that be we call ‘Immortality’? In a way yes, except we would never know about it. Unless we believe some soothsayers who state sometimes they have an inkling about something has happened before to them. The funny thing is I had those thoughts as well. Whether it means anything I will leave open, simply because I do not know either way. If it is true, it means consciousness is universal. My consciousness just migrates. The question is can anything change or are we doomed to live this live on ‘me’ forever? It seems a bit pointless, doesn’t it? So as our article from Nova prism says: ‘This endless repetition of structure is what guarantees the existence of duplicate Earths. Quantum mechanics dictates that there are only a finite number of ways particles can arrange themselves within a given volume of space. If space is truly infinite, and matter is distributed uniformly throughout it, the limited number of particle configurations means every possible arrangement must eventually repeat. Somewhere out there in the limitless expanse, the exact sequence of events that created our solar system, our planet, and you, has played out again’.
So if I meet you again – Say hello because we’ll meet time and time again, somewhere.
