A pertinent question ...

As a new year is beckoning we should really start talking and acting to the problem of global warming. I am aware that I personally as I am driving a car, am also partly responsible for this, the warming of the polar areas and the heat-waves in Africa and Asia. Obviously I am not just on my own, in fact we ALL are! I saw a nice TV documentary, one of those made by Steve Backshall who was paddling along the receding North Polar ice-shelf . He could not really believe how far it has receded! I have quite a lot of admiration for old Steve but I think he ought to realise he too is responsible with all that travelling to and fro to virtually inaccessible places. There again, how would we otherwise know about these places that suffer the consequences of humanity’s careless ways? We are still living according to 19 th century’s attitudes towards politics, influence and power. The Russians show this without any doubt. The US of A is not much better. And let’s not mention here that bunch resi...

Everyone having a good time? Well, eh....

As the Christmas we were all looking forward to, also watching all the good films (or bad ones, unfortunately), in one I picked up a very true saying. Something I have struggled with about how to explain certain issues. The film was called – The Boy who would be King. Yes, the story of King Arthur but set in terms of today. In fact a local secondary school. Merlin came out as an interesting character waving his hands about in some strange fashion. King Arthur was portrayed as a bit of a wimp but with a good heart. Anyway, towards the end of the film Merlin congratulating the ‘heroics’ said – ‘A country is only as good as its leaders’ .  These few words actually shook me somewhat because in that very short sentence Merlin, and now spoken by one of our great actors, Patrick Stewart put down in these words the reason why this country is as it is! Britain a bit of a laughing stock today, with second rate , even third rate people portraying they know how to change it for the better. We ...

Some pertinent questions - but .....

If anyone wants to know how shallow and bad politics in the UK really is, just listen to the verbal denials of items. Items such as pension repayments or rebates to women who lost out some time ago on decisions made by the government in power at that time. When the now Prime Minister Starmer was in opposition he was so happy to be photographed with ladies with that problem, saying how we would rectify ALL the wrongs of the Tory government. Well, we have now seen how far that goes. Absolutely nowhere. As has been mentioned many times before – you cannot trust a politician’s word. I think it is correct to say, we have elected a Labour government on false promises. It is also true to say that whatever they said and promised before the election has virtually melted like snow before daybreak! They would say that now they are in power the reality of the situation, the financial one, has become clear. Sorry Labour people, you did not do any real work about finding out the true si...

Do you have some spare land for Eddie?

It might have escaped people’s notice, the reason for the strange governmental verbal emanations made by virtuoso Ed Miliband are rooted in the failures to control illegal immigration. Especially as the increased population necessitates millions more homes and vastly increased power needs. Plus bearing in mind that power here means electricity as coal, oil, wood and gas are out of contention. Electricity generated by those thousands of massive wind turbines. Obviously as we have plenty of land to spare according to Ed we will build these on Green Belt land. Ed is an English chappie so a lot of wind turbines as he envisaged, will be needed, and will be winging their way to Wales. Wales as ever will bear the brunt of English inventive thinking. England is full of NIMBYs as we in Wales know to our cost. Even so, they will still have quite a number to contend with. It has become glaringly obvious that the government, past and present, haven’t got the foggiest about how to deal with 21 st ...

Tax baby, don't we just love tax...not.

We have indicated many times how poor our government really is. We all can see it yet again in all its splendour. The Labour promises, now slowly being backtracked. The incessant ‘Talk’ about ‘black holes’. Black holes no-one knows how they came about or even if they existed at all. The continuing talk about the previous government having left us ‘with a real mess’. Which they will put right in two months. Or even before Christmas. OK, Starmer, if there was or is such a mess how about doing something? Instead of looking like you heard it thundering in Paris? I believe the problem is a simple one, MPs are basically bottom sitters. That is to say they talk about real problems then go home and believe they have solved them. I have news for them, problems are NOT solved by talking about them but by doing something constructive. However, it is only the Cabinet that has the power to take action. Unfortunately they are of the same ilk. Take the much talked about new idea of taxing – Inherita...

Happy world? Hmmm, I wonder....

If anyone here thinks we are safe in the UK or indeed, safe in the western world, think again. For a start the climate which is worsening will make it almost impossible to live in the drier parts, plus make harvests in cooler climates due to excessive rain much more problematic. Hence, it is predicted that starvation will become common. Coupled with vastly increased human populations, already half the 8.2 billion people live in Asia, necessitating those that can to seek a life in the richer parts of the world. Politics also, that is viewing the autocratic regimes, will make people pack up and seek work and a life somewhere safer. These are not predictions, they are already happening. Nearly a million a year get into the UK bringing the (in)famous boat people. Through a few experiments in the fifties to the seventies, researcher John Calhoun made efforts to study the effects of population density on behaviour. He provided limitless food, and secluded little apartments. He studied the...

Democracy? What's it about then?

Perhaps we, in the so-named, democratic world have failed to notice a worrying trend within society? For a start we have eminently educated legal people declaring that an elected prime minister of a democratic country is a criminal. This together with one of his ministers. As some journalists have written, we seem to have forgotten how all this started. Then we have diplomats of the European Union actually agreeing and even the British Prime Minister refuses to condemn this deplorable ICC decision. It seems that somehow we agree with the actions of terrorists and actions of authoritarian states. What is going on, we have to ask. Are we hell-bent on establishing a totalitarian state? Do we really understand what is at stake? In Romania already a person with Russian sympathies is the front-runner for the presidency. It escapes people’s perception that it does not take a lot to change a political system! It does not take a lot to descend into the abyss! Remember the way how Hitler in Germ...

Pertinent questions? Maybe....

The whole political world has gone utterly and completely insane! Personally I have never held politicians in high esteem. I believe that most are complete off the mark. I don’t doubt they start with the idea ‘To help people across the board’ but somewhere along the path things change. Take that wonderful example of a politician with an elevated level of intelligence, in fact the level beyond comprehension, Mr Ed Miliband. Well, at least his degrees are not in Home Economics and Cooking. But by all accounts he does cook a mean bit of bacon. But back to the point, he now believes he is the world’s champion of Climate Control. More so in that Britain’s proposed ‘Boiler Tax’ will change the world’s climate for the better almost immediately! Yes, it is a plan again thought up whilst sitting at breakfast eating a bacon sarnie (I must add without a camera in sight!). Brilliant thinking, one would have thought it might have been better to convince countries like the US, China, India, Pakistan...

The 'Brilliant ideas keep coming!"

If any right thinking UK citizen would like to know the capability, the competence of their government, or indeed their political representatives, think no further. One of the most brilliant decisions made by the Labour government - Eligible prisoners serving more than five years can now be automatically released after only 40% of their fixed-term sentence, rather than the usual 50%. Right, brilliant decision, arn’t we wonderful? The problem though is as already seen across the nation, the increase of homeless people sleeping rough. Just as in Wales, which is not yet overpopulated except in holiday time when brainless English come to defecate on its beaches, the borough of Bridgend seems to be taken over by rough sleepers. Cardiff as well, like other big UK cities. Just like all these other badly researched, badly managed political decisions this one very quickly has bitten us all in the bum! With the housing crisis in full swing who in all honesty thought that releasing prisoners earl...

Is NATO dead? Well, ask Trump...

Now that the (in)famous US election has been done and dusted, us here in Europe, and I classify the UK as still part of Europe although not aligned with its economics part, the EU trading bloc, Europe as a whole needs to seriously think over Trump’s words about NATO. As we already know it was mentioned he had reservations about the payments as agreed by constituent members not being met. Yes, also including the UK! 2.5% of GDP but most except the US itself failed to do so. So, what now? Are we seeing the collapse of NATO? It could well be but not just yet. It has been talked about Russia spending billions for subverting NATO. Indeed subverting western ideas, western politics, including elections. We need to seriously think about how to combat that! For myself I have been of the opinion that a standing European Army is a must. Despite the UK not being part of the decision making process out of Brussels we need to be part of it. The time has gone long past that the UK can stand on its ow...

So, what now, Mr Starmer?

Well, what now for the British government? Indeed, what now for the EU? As Donald (the Don) has won the US presidency? What about the future for Mr Lammy? Ms Maitlis? Hahaha, you couldn’t make it worse for the lefties. But realistically, it is a dramatic disaster for the West generally. Why the US has strongly moved to the right and most of Europe is still anchored in liberal leftie useless crap ideas. What does that mean? Well, for a start think about NATO. The monster in Moscow is smiling his head off. Then, trade, if the 'America First' idea gets a hold it will probably mean heavy tariffs on foreign imports. Not good for the UK. It will be an eye-opener to see how politics will be in the next few years. I don’t think there will be a major war. The Ukraine might be pressurised to accept a compromise, meaning loss of the eastern provinces. In any case it seems that the people there have no wish to be Ukrainians. Thereafter Ukraine will be part of NATO and will become a valu...

Change? Let's hope but hold your breath...

As I mentioned before, No change, politicians are still lying. Remember Labour proudly boasting, there will be no tax rises, no nasty surprises? Guess what, as I suspected this so-called £22billion black hole is something Reeves dreamt up after a row with her husband. Or he didn’t make her breakfast with the customary bacon and egg. A total fallacy. Most of that dreamt-up black hole is actually the money Labour wants to spend on their ideas. So it is basically the amount they will be borrowing and blaming the Conservatives for it. They even probably are congratulating themselves for having this ‘brilliant’ idea. If anyone wants to know what shallowness in politics looks like, come to the UK. Frankly the political system in the UK is far beyond its usefulness. Democracy only works well with people of integrity. Lying is not governing, it is just hiding mistakes, or portraying fiction, a fantasy or illusion. The Labour top and spearheaded by Ms Reeves are already living in cloud cuckoo ...

Rules galore but results? Eh...

So, we think of the Labour party being for people? Yes, I heard the thunder as well. But let that rest for now. I believe the bill will be pushed through their door soon enough. I want to really highlight the way governments act today. Not just the main government but also the Welsh one and also the Scottish and Northern Irish, although these last two I have little notion of. It is about making decisions that have a big impact on citizens generally. Like in Wales the decision to impose a 20mph rule in built-up areas. There was no democratic vote. The Westminster government to impose a £40 billion tax grab, no vote. I suppose they thought their general election victory gave them that power. Perhaps we ought to start asking what sort of system we actually live under? There was no vote about what is called ‘Net-zero’ and its affiliated decisions like plastering the countryside with obnoxious wind turbines. Coupled with the east-coast possible overhead power lines bringing electricity fro...

Anyone heard about "String Theory"?

As I am rather interested in the Universe and what makes it tick, I came across the ‘String Theory’. A Physics theory that came about around the Seventies. Basically saying that “ String theory provides a theoretical framework in which all particles, from photons to quarks, are one-dimensional strings as opposed to zero-dimensional points. If a version of string theory were found that held up in all contexts, it would serve as a single mathematical model for describing the nature of the universe—a “theory of everything” that would replace the Standard Model of physics, which does not explain gravity. (from a Masterclass.com article)”. The Encyclopedia Britannica says “S tring theory , in particle physics, a theory that attempts to merge quantum mechanics with Albert Einstein’s general theory of relativity”. Succinctly put I suppose but to the common man it means absolutely nothing. From my point of view, I see the Universe. On a clear night I still see a multitude of stars as I live ...

Yeah, what about taxation then eh?

Ha, what can you say today about tax? Nothing much except that it has gone up. Yeah, yeah, I know, gone up by a huge amount. But despite weasel words from both Starmer and Reeves which have now been shown to be complete lies as well, it will have been designed to raise over £40billion. Pocket money really because most of it will go to the national hoover service, the NHS. I realise that people think they will need the NHS but do we need the all-encompassing service as it is? Which other country allows people to attend a GP surgery with a common cold? Or a graze on a knee? Or dispenses free medicine, even paracetamol? Here in the UK we have been allowed to grow up expecting freebies like the NHS without fail. Now that due to increased population the NHS is tottering and still tries to stand up, our political nonsense purveyors think that throwing just a bit more money will do the trick. As it has already been proven, it does not. It just increases the administration apparatus and wage i...

Musings about space-time...

Whilst it is fun to write about our national political failures, both human and in actions, it doesn’t stop the mind thinking about everything around itself. In particular the space we all live in. Like for instance, expanding space. The question about how our universe started. Big Bang? Big Whimper? Or no bang or whimper at all? Obviously I am not a scientist, although it doesn’t stop me thinking about the subject. For what I am seeing and hearing, scientists also don’t really know much about it either. The reality on the ground is pretty simple. Everything falls down. In other words ‘gravity’. A force not to be taken lightly either. The next thing I am thinking, our universe is there, we can see the stars in it. Our enormous telescopes are showing it in great detail. Then the idea of the ‘expanding’ universe. But is that really true? Of course, there is the ‘red-shift’ but does that actually indicate the universe is expanding? Or that star systems are just moving about. As everything...

Are things better there or here? It depends...

As readers from a previous post will recall we recently returned from the Netherlands. Permit me to say here, now that we are back in the RhonddaCynonTaf Borough, send all the councillors over there to see how they deal with rubbish. There are the usual problems but I can say the roads and pavements look clean. People take some pride in their surroundings, little and small as they are. I just went for a walk today in the sunshine and was aghast at the amount of crap rubbish all around. The pavements are virtually clogged with sweet wrappers, empty plastic bottles and on rubbish collection day it is festooned with plastic bags, see-through or the black type which are the favourite of the local jackdaws and cats. Also the rat population is doing quite well, thank you. What’s gone wrong with us, no pride in our surroundings anymore? Or are RhonddaCynonTaf people now so immune to rubbish they don’t mind living in the midst of it? In fact rejoice in it? No-one cares, even when you point out...

London, that great cesspool into which all the loungers and idlers of the Empire are irresistibly drained.

Not so long ago the UK voted in a new party to govern us all. Wonderful promises, working people would be treated like gods, they would sort out the ‘mess’ left by the previous ‘idiots’ and more. The question now after only a short time is – what happened to this heaven? Well, of course, it never happened. The trouble is ‘political double speak’ has now pervaded all of society. It is a bit like A.I, we don’t really know what is true and what is not. However, believe me when I say, most of it is untrue. Simple obfuscation of reality. The political class do not wish us to know the real state of the nation and believe me, it is not brilliant. How can the politicos be proud of the years of doing absolutely nothing? Yes, it goes across the spectrum. It is easy to talk about things, caged in wonderful words, like a pantomime. Studied appearances, how they stand, how they frown or smile. It is all just so much cr*p. We have became a nation led by third-rate woke artists. The only thing we do ...

Reparations? Why?

Lovely to see the King and Queen enjoying their stay in Samoa but I wonder if they know they are walking into a trap set up by mostly the Caribbean Commonwealth nations about reparations for slavery. Well, let me say here straight away all slavery ought to be unlawful. Surely no-one today agrees with slavery. Yet, it still exists in many forms. I suppose there are now no sailing ships taking the people of Africa to America to work on the plantations, today they go voluntarily to seek a better life. But the point, as many have said, why dreg up happenings from the past about which we can do nothing except to disown it? Obviously by today’s standards slavery is abhorrent, especially the way it was carried out in the 1500-1700’s. It is not something to be proud of. But if we start talking about reparations, financial reparations, one UN idiot has worked out that Britain ‘owes’ more than £18 trillion! Bit of pocket money I suppose. Bearing in mind that our national debt stands at about £2....

Just a short trip..and back.

Recently I took the plane to visit my family in the Netherlands. Flight just an hour, no frills, no thrills. Overall I am not happy in myself for having to take a plane because of the CO2 it undeniably pushes out of its engines. But the train from Wales is a no-go. Cardiff station is a nightmare, you have to traverse half of London by foot, bike, or taxi. Tube, whatever and St Pancreas to catch the Eurostar is another nightmare. If you plan you might find a train that actually goes to Amsterdam Centraal station but most likely you would have to change at Brussels. On top of all that the cost is much higher than flying. So, although being environmentally conscious the choice is rather limited. Anyway, having arrived at Schiphol I have to say that organisation is way above what we have to experience in the UK. About everything is signposted in about 2,000 languages and about everybody speaks English. The marechaussee (military border guard division of the Dutch army) was very fast, stamp...

Where are we going? You tell....

Like it has been indicated quite a few times – the world is run by either complete morons, or by megalomaniacs. I am not the only one who says this and in any case you only have to listen or see TV news reports. Some would say, ’So what? It has always been like that, look at history’. Sure, quite right but now we are in the 21 st century and quite frankly these people that lord it over the rest of us are now shown to be simply digging the communal grave. Their avarice, their untamed greed, their lust for power have put us at the edge of the abyss. Look at the so-called ‘Police agent’ of the world, the United States. Led by someone who should stay in bed but the possibility of someone taking over who quite simply has no idea beyond talking about making ‘America great again’. Like if the rest of America actually cared. Then at another side of the word are two autocratic powers who simply do not feel their respective nations are big enough. Aided in those views based on cloud-cuckoo opin...

Sleaze or not to sleaze? That's the question...

Good news this morning, our law-abiding Prime Minister has paid back £6,000. Why? Well, all the freebies he and his family have received. That’s nice, isn’t it? An upstanding Prime Minister. Where have we found him? I think he fell from heaven. Just now I’m looking what he has done with his wings. There is just one thing that bothers me, why do politicians accept freebies so much? Yes, obviously I know, it’s about influence. Let’s be fair, those who shower these so-called freebies, clothes, free tickets, a year’s subscription to a whisky club, free flights to Antarctica, whatever, why accept it at all? Even a free bar of chocolate? The givers only look for one thing, influence on policy making and possibly financial advantage. It should simply be unlawful to either give or accept freebies, or any gift made e.g a free house for a time. Any MP is at the end no different from any other employee in the country. Why all these extras? It is said, and I have said it before; power corrupts, ab...

Daily musings about - Who will it be?

Perhaps the Tories deserved what they got – a major electoral defeat. There is no better thing to proper thinking, to become again aligned with the reality on the ground. It seems to be a problem with all political parties having been in power for a long time, the infighting, the jockeying for power. So, listening to some reality is good for the soul, or so they say. Kemi Badenoch seems to hit the nail on the head. The Cons have been talking and talking and more talking. I suppose it’s what politicians do but surely we as electors should expect some concrete results from all the talk? For years now we have known about the problem of the boats. The criminals operating the system and the results locally on the ground. Yet the problem instead of being solved has just grown worse. We should ask, must ask, what did our governments do? Answer – just talk or rather – nothing.  But Ms Badenoch has put it succinctly, she said something I also have said, "We cannot be naïve and assume immig...

Some reality check needed, people?

It is amazing how the situation in the world develops from time to time. I was watching the news this morning on our hallowed BBC News channel  still wondering why I pay for a TV Licence and learned that Keir Starmer QC had breakfast or lunch or dinner with Trump accompanied by the all-singing, all-dancing Foreign Secretary, the irascible Mr Lammy. That despite this wunderkind’s verbal outbursts against Trump, made in the recent past. But let us not worry about that. What we should worry about is Starmer’s edict about the immediate ceasefire in Lebanon. Now, I am well aware what devastation the bombing does to the local population. But surely our politicians know what is at stake? Even I can see it is a fight for the right of Israel to exist, and exist in peace. Let’s take this scenario – suddenly Mexico thinks it should have a go at the US because it has built a wall on the border stopping all legitimate transport of goods and people. This is done by a grouping of illegals. What d...
